Strong marijuana becomes hard drug

The Hague - the Netherlands - Strong marijuana and hashish becoming hard drugs. It is all about the marijuana which contains more than 15% of the substance THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). This means that these marijuana strains can no longer go over the coffeshop counter.

This proposal is on the agenda of the Dutch cabinet, confirmed initiates this wednesday. Earlier a commission adviced to stop tolerating these strong marijuana varieties.

The THC- level of marijuana, which is good for almost 75% of the coffeshops sales, lies between 15%- 18% today. The risk of addiction and psychotic disorders will be to high said the commission . But the industry reacted negative on the advice. the Platform CannabisBusinesses thinks it is absurd to qualify strong marijuana as hard drug.

In a laboratory it is possible to determine the THC-level but disposable tests are not available. Political party D66 advocates regulation of cannabis cultivation, so that producers may be asked to make marijuana not too strong.

The experts also adviced to put GHB (gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid) on the hard drug list. Minister "Edith Schippers" (Health) already decided to follow this advice. Not just acute health problems, but also the amount of addiction on GHB has increased lately.
