Obatala created the first humans out of clay while Oduduwa became the first divine king of the Yoruba. Yoruba mythology believes that Oduduwa and Obatala wear clothes made of hemp and smoked cannabis for medical and spiritual purposes. Until today many of the surviving cult-groups of the city celebrate the creation of the world while smoking cannabis during the Itapa festival.
